received from Doug Allchin:
Another of 'our' Allchins is the Rev Donald Allchin (until
recently Canon of Canterbury Cathedral) who is a prolific publisher
of works on Celtic Christianity, and whos name also pops up on
the web from time to time, both scions of the Southern England
branch. It would seem there was an Allchin matriarch variously
referred to as Lottie or Florrie (possibly both?) around the turn
of the 20th Century who was quite prolific, as all the Allchins
who originated south of the Thames that we traced, seemed to have
their roots in her somewhere!
There was a whole raft of Allchins around Northampton too, and
many who (alegedly) were either hung for sheep rustling, or transported
to the colonies - maybe that explains the (involuntary) Allchin
diaspora?
The
future of our side of the family is rather uncertain, as it was
not large to start with (my father Eric Douglas Allchin, born
London 23 Sept 1916, died October 1978- son of Jesse James Allchin
of London - had only one natural brother [and one step brother,
from his father's second wife, born before his father and his
second wife met, and this natural brother - Lesley- who moved
from London to Falmouth, Cornwall - had two sons, Andrew [deceased]
and David, neither of whom produced issue.)
My father had three children, Michael - born 28/12/1952 and Jane-
born 22/05/1957 [Allchins born and bred] and myself [adopted].
Neither Michael nor Jane can have children, so I have been left
to carry on the name (If not the blood) and have produced three
sons, Martin, Jonathon, and Adam. It appears that Adam, John and
Jesse are very common names amongst the Allchins
